Arts Council England have announced that Akademi will continue to be a National Portfolio Organisation for the period 2018-22.

The four-year funding settlement ensures we can continue to plan ambitious artistic projects, develop artists and expand the audience for South Asian dance in the UK.

Arts funding across the country remains extremely challenging, with huge competition for limited resources and cuts continuing to bite at a local level. With many organisations, like Akademi, receiving standstill grants at a time of rising costs, it is vital that we continue to forge new partnerships and attract new supporters to the cause. The endorsement and core financial support from Arts Council England makes a vital difference to our ability to do that.

Akademi’s Director Mira Kaushik OBE said:

“We are extremely grateful to Arts Council England for continuing to support Akademi and the UK’s South Asian dance sector more widely. We are looking forward to celebrating our 40th Anniversary in 2019 and working with our partners and artists on a very exciting programme of work in the coming years”

Akademi’s Chair of Trustees, Paul Parashar said:

“In these difficult times for arts funding, it is truly heartening that Arts Council England understands the value of Akademi’s work. I would like to thank Akademi’s staff, trustees, supporters and partners for everything they do to ensure a bright future for South Asian dance in the UK.”
