Akademi provides a year-round programme of opportunities for dance artists. From mentoring and advice to curated showcase opportunities, we nurture the next generation of talented dancers. Our aim is to help them build sustainable professional careers.
We currently have two performance-based development programmes:
NAVODIT is our entry-level artist development project. Selected through Akademi auditions, artists are provided with a creative mentor and introduced to the workings of a production and creative team. We support artists through the production process to provide first-hand experience in realising dance work in a professional context.
To become a Navodit you must have a minimum of three years training in a classical Indian dance style and be keen to invest in furthering your dance career. You will be committed to presenting yourself on a public stage and dedicated to developing your performance practice. Akademi encourages each cohort of Navodits to work collaboratively and positively engage in each other’s performance work.
DAREDEVAS is our artist development platform for mid-career classical Indian dance artists. Progressing from NAVODIT, DAREDEVAS supports established artists to engage with and refine their performativity. Each DAREDEVAS performance is supported by and developed in collaboration with a team of technicians, choreographers, lighting designers and a production coordinator. Each artist nominates a mentor to actively engage and develop their classical performance repertoire. A bursary is provided to invest in further career development.
To become a DAREDEVA you must have advanced training in a classical Indian dance form and be passionate to promote it to a wider audience. You must be committed to developing your performance practice and be based in the UK.
