Akademi presents at the launch of UK/India Year of Culture 2017
Hosted by Her Majesty The Queen, Head of the Commonwealth, accompanied by The Duke of Edinburgh and The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, this reception marks the start of a major programme of events organised throughout 2017 by the British Council. Celebrating the ties between the two countries, this event will bring together the best of British and Indian culture and creativity.
At this spectacular occasion, Akademi will present Arunima Kumar Dance Company in a demonstration of the rich history and finesse of Indian classical dance. The performance will feature a medley of classical dance styles, touching on the intricate footwork of Kathak, the sculpturesque body movements of Kuchipudi, Bharatanatyam’s expressive hand gestures and elaborate facial expressions, as well as the subtlety of Manipuri and striking Odissi.
The ensemble will feature performances from Arunima Kumar, Shivani Bhandari Sethia, Jesal Patel, Bhagya Lakshmi, Archna Patel, Showmi Das, Hélène Lesage, Elena Catalano and Debanjali Biswas.
UK/India Year of Culture 2017
In 2017, the UK and India will celebrate a major bilateral year of cultural exchange. Throughout 2017 a programme of cultural events and activities will be organised in India organised by the British Council, and a similar programme in the UK organised by the Government of India. UK/India 2017 seeks to enrich relationships at all levels of society, their institutions and government, building a shared future for generations to come.
