Dance in the Mix – Staycation

Dance in the Mix was Akademi’s Education and Community project in partnership with Rich Mix.

In 2016, students of George Greens School and Langdon Park School worked for 9 weeks, practising South Asian Dance with professional artists, to create dance pieces on the theme of Staycation. This coincided with the our artist development programme DAREDEVAS performance at Rich Mix called STAYCATION / VACATION.

As part of this project, students had the opportunity to watch company rehearsals, and hear from industry professionals on their personal career pathways.

Alongside the project, George Greens School pupils also worked on completing their Bronze Arts Award, and helped to design the set. 

George Greens School performance was choreographed by Kamala Devam and Honey Kalaria while the Langdon Park School performance was choreographed by Elena Catalano and assisted by Maryam Shakiba
