Performances, 2001

Spirit Unleashed were two site-specific performances on 13 November 2001, devised and co-ordinated by Akademi’s then Community Officer, Nicola Froud, in collaboration with Chelsea and Westminster hospital Arts as part of Dancing for the Spirit a two-year programme at the hospital, generously funded by the Bridge House Estates Trust Fund. Its aim was to have face to face interaction with patients, staff and visitors via visual art, dance, music and video workshops over an intensive week. After which, there would be intense artist and student contact exploring themes from the Ramayana with the aim of producing a performance piece. A site specific multimedia performance of light, sound and movement involving 50 dancers, 3 musicians, 2 choreographers and a video and visual artists exploring the story of Diwali through Ramayana.
