Dance Well | Dance for all

Akademi are excited to announce the launch of our two-day learning and participation training event for dance practitioners on 11 and 12 March at the Sonia Sabri Company in Birmingham. This two-day training event will provide key information and practical strategies on how to creatively engage young people with SEN, older adults, and those living with long-term health conditions.

Akademi delivers outreach work in a wide range of settings, including hospitals, day care centres, schools, care homes and community centres. Working as a dance artist in settings such as these requires varied approaches and specific skills. With developments in dance for health rapidly increasing, Akademi are offering artists the opportunity to expand their knowledge within this sector so that they can deliver educational dance work to the highest standard. In the last year we have provided dance performances and participatory sessions for over 8,500 patients, visitors and staff in hospitals, workshops for 400+ older adults and 268 school classes.

In addition to the training event, there will also be an opportunity to arrange observations of Dance Well workshops in hospitals and community settings. This will allow you to learn from shadowing experienced artists and to gain a deeper insight into how Akademi runs its outreach programmes.

This training is suitable for dance practitioners who are already working in learning and participation settings, as well as those interested in developing their practice for these contexts.

We have a limited number of spaces available to ensure individual attention is possible.
