A dancer? A dreamer? A queen? Come partake of a sumptuous feast of dance, music and a royal tale of intrigue, love, and war from a woman’s perspective, based on a historical fictional novel, I Krishnadevaraya.
Chinnadevi is an exciting promenade performance in the Bharatanatyam style, marring history, culture, movement and music together, to create a fresh perspective on Bharatanatyam accessible to art lovers and community audiences in modern Britain. The narrative is in English, ably stitched together by story teller Sarah Perceval. Scintillating dances by Dr. Chamundeeswari Kuppuswamy, Mathangi Keshavan, Sankari Mridha and dance student Lianne Oosterbaan will take you on an intense emotional journey of one woman as she dreams, dances, perseveres and achieves something unthinkable! Our choice of venue gives you a historic cultural atmosphere for the production and will help you enjoy this traditional space in a new way! Chinnadevi is a deconstruction and a reconstruction of the traditional repertoire, aimed at creating a new experience of tradition in Britain.
