Akademi in collaboration with Pagrav Dance Company: Kattam Katti
Kattam Katti transports you to Uttarayan, the world-famous kite festival in Gujurat, North India. Millions of people from different cities, religions and social classes come together to fly kites in a unique event marking the transition from winter into summer.
Pagrav Dance Company brings the competitive chaos, creativity and colour of the event to life with enchanting lyricism, exquisite technique and strong drama.
Founded by acclaimed dancer, teacher and choreographer Urja Desai Thakore (recently BBC Young Dancer choreographer), the company creates contemporary work rooted in traditional Kathak dance style.
Created and performed by a new generation of British dancers of Indian heritage and accomplished musicians playing live, Kattam Katti invites us into the highs and lows, loves and losses of the festival and ultimately of our connections with each other.
The show is commissioned by Sadler’s Wells, London. It is funded by Arts Council England and Milton Keynes Council with partners MK Gallery, Creative Folkstone, University of Bedfordshire, Akademi, SouthEast Dance, SAA Arts UK and Gem Arts.
Celebrating 40 inspiring years.
