An evening of powerful, ambitious and original work from early career South Asian choreographers.

Akademi’s SPARKPLUGS initiative presents powerful, ambitious and original work of early career South Asian choreographers, by providing platforms and introducing audiences to new work while promoting the diversity of South Asian Dance and celebrating its place in the UK. This unique evening presents ReRooted Collective and Morph Dance Company.

The double bill is ignited by ReRooted Dance Collective’s dynamic solos and a newly created group piece comprising elements of three distinct Indian Classical dance styles – Kathak, Odissi and Bharatanatyam. These experimental works are shaped by a collaborative approach grounded in peer mentoring and explore dance with an emphasis on improvisation alongside vocal accompaniment.

This will be followed by ‘Fly From’. Choreographed by Saju Hari and performed by Subhash Viman Gorania, it is a solo performance inspired by the ‘standing man of Taksim Square’ in Istanbul and looks at the fight against resistance while searching for ultimate liberation and enlightenment.
