Bharatanatyam Workshop with Bala Devi Chandrashekar
The Bharatanatyam dance workshop will include teaching an item which will encompass the core components of Nritta (pure dance) including karanas- temple sculptures and abhinaya (expression) with a balanced approach to both theory and practice as detailed in the ancient treatise of performing arts – Natya shastra. The workshop is designed for students to have a thorough knowledge of the literature, music, story and moorings of the item taught, giving the participant a holistic experience. The workshop will involve the participants in having a dialogue as they engage in an aesthetic journey exploring the body in motion.

Celebrating 40 inspiring years.
2019 is Akademi’s 40th anniversary year and we want to celebrate the breadth and richness of South Asian dance in the UK. We’ve invited artists to submit information on London-based events that they are planning between April 2019 and April 2020 to form the Akademi Associated programme.
