Training

Specialist training for dance artists delivering our programmes

Akademi delivers outreach work across a wide range of settings, including hospitals, schools, care homes and community associations. Working as a dance artist in settings such as these requires experience, skill and specific training. Akademi provides ongoing training and professional development for artists who lead on current programmes to ensure a high standard across all areas of community work.

The following are essential requirements for all Akademi dance artists:

  • An enhanced DBS check issued within the last 3 years. If you do not currently hold a DBS certificate, you can apply for one through People Dancing. Alternatively, check with your employer.
  • A clear understanding of/completed Level 2 safeguarding training.
  • Previous experience of dance teaching, community dance or dance for health is usually desirable.
  • It is also recommended that you hold your own Public liability insurance. This can also be obtained through People Dancing’s membership or check with the organisation you are currently working with.
